B.O.B. Trailers, Inc. Products
Who is BOB anyway? It started back in 1991. As a general theme, the founders of BOB Trailers and Sport Utility Strollers aspire to use their cars and other resource consuming products as little as possible. (Not an everyday easy task mind you...) It all started with the need for a versatile, light weight rig for transporting "stuff" on a bike: tools, camping gear, groceries, etc. They took an old, unrideable beach cruiser bicycle and created a single wheel trailer out of the frame. BOB Trailers and Sport Utility Strollers was born. The next design challenge was to develop a universally adaptable hitch. Enter the BOB attach system...All bikes have a rear axle and they found this to be a great location to attach the trailer to. From this point, you get optimal towing performance, excellent aerodynamics, the lowest center of gravity and compatibility with full-suspension bikes. Translation: A trailer that really "trails" your bicycle's rear wheel; a trailer with superb handling characteristics.
The Bob Trailers YAK has revolutionized the way gear is carried on a bike, whether a Road Tour from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego, or a year's trip through Europe, adventure travelers around the world are choosing the Bob Trailers YAK trailer over the traditional rack and pannier system. The Bob Trailers YAK has also become the standard rig for hauling gear into the backcountry for a weekend of hiking and biking [Bikepacking!] or adventure travel vacations such as those along the Great Divide Route, a 2,400 mile trail through the Rocky Mountains stretching from Canada to Mexico.
So where did the name BOB Trailers come from? You'd be amazed how often they get this question. The company's original name was Beast of Burden Trailers (the YAK was named after the Nepalese pack animal). BOB was easier to spell, funny, and simple... like the products they produce. In 1997, they realized that the YAK needed a complementary trailer that was more suited for the urban environment.
Then came the kids... and with them, an unforeseen inspiration to build the best looking, best performing, highest quality jogging-type stroller in the world. As Dads, they struggled with the aesthetic of the father pushing a flowery print, polka dot stroller. The BOB Sport Utility Stroller was born. Their kids were key participants in the product development process. They squeaked, burped, cried, hurled, scratched, tipped and clawed at the prototypes they gave them to use. Baby tested tough - just ask them (or Mom). Talk to your Pediatrician about the virtues of suspension. If comfort, style, and a plush ride are important to you and your kids, the BOB Sport Utility Stroller is the best there is. Why dare give your kids anything less?
