Gund Products
For more than a century, GUND has been creating unique teddy bears, soft play sets, Baby Gund toys and baby rattles and other soft toys recognized the world over for their quality, innovation, hug-ability and life-like expression. The history of GUND is an American success story of two European immigrants and how their hard work and imagination created an enduring consumer brand.
In 1898, German immigrant Adolph Gund founded a toy and novelty company. Shortly after, a Russian immigrant named Jacob Swedlin joined the company. Mr. Gund befriended the young man and taught him the intricacies of toy making. Adolph Gund retired in 1925 and sold the company to Jacob Swedlin, on the condition the company name would remain GUND as the brand had already become known for product quality. GUND was responsible for pioneering many innovations, safety standards and manufacturing processes for the toy industry.
GUND was also the first company to produce a musical toy that was affordably priced for the average American family. GUND has always been committed to product safety and the company set an important industry standard by devising a way to attach eyes securely to plush animals preventing them from being pulled out by small children.
Continuing the family tradition, Jacob Swedlin passed down control of the company to his daughter and her husband. Under their direction, the company began using its now trademarked under-stuffing technique, the heart of the world's most huggable plush. Now run by the third generation, the company has grown internationally and continues to set the standard for product excellence.
